Truck Driving School Requirements for Admission

DOT Physical & Drug Test

Applicants must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam and a regulated drug test provided by a third-party vendor. Each test is to ensure you meet compliance with federal regulations.

Driving Record Requirements

Each applicant must have a driving record with zero driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while impaired (DWI) convictions, careless driving, or reckless driving within the most recent 5 years.

Age Restrictions

Anyone 18 years of age or older can apply. Individuals between 18 and 21 years of age are restricted to Intrastate travel (Pennsylvania only).

Proof of Identity

Prior to acceptance, all school applicants must provide a current driver’s license to verify their identity.

Admissions Process

At Shelly Truck Driving School, we offer a quick and efficient admissions process, allowing applicants to begin a course as soon as 1 week after applying. Here is what you can expect from the admissions process:

  1. Submit Form: Fill out the form on the applications page to begin the admissions process.
  2. Schedule Interview: Within 1–2 business days, a school staff member will contact you to schedule an interview and discuss the program.
  3. Admissions Interview: During the interview, you’ll learn program details and discuss truck driving school requirements, graduation requirements, tuition costs, job placement opportunities, and any questions you have.
  4. Receive Enrollment Application: Following your interview, we’ll send you the enrollment application.
  5. Complete & Return Application: Complete the application and return it to our team.
  6. Acceptance Notification: Once accepted, we’ll notify you and move forward with next steps.
  7. Payment & Scheduling: Together, we’ll coordinate payment and send you your training schedule.

How long is truck driving school?

The CDL training course at Shelly Truck Driving School lasts 4 weeks. This includes 160 hours of instruction focusing on road skills and yard skills. Students also get time on our truck driving simulator.
