About Our Authorized CDL Testing Location

Since 2015, our CDL testing site has allowed CDL applicants to complete their final skills test, whether you are a Shelly Truck Driving School student or a student from another school. Students of Shelly Truck Driving School receive testing at no additional cost.

All CDL testing will be conducted as required by PennDOT and in compliance with the state CDL licensing standards.

 

How to Schedule Your CDL Test

Can You Take a CDL Test Online?

No, you cannot take your CDL test online. All CDL tests are required by PennDOT to be completed in person at an authorized CDL testing site, such as Shelly Truck Driving School.

 

What to Expect During Your Test

All authorized CDL testing sites will conduct the CDL Skills Test according to the PennDOT CDL Driver’s Manual regulations, and includes three main portions of testing.

  1. Vehicle Inspection: During the test, you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge of a commercial vehicle’s safety by completing a pre-trip inspection.
  2. Basic Control Skills: You will be required to test your ability to control the commercial vehicle through a number of maneuvers, such as backing up and parking.
  3. Road Test: The test examiner will assess your ability to drive in real-world conditions on the road, including highways, city streets, hills, and more.
  4. Test Length: While there is no time limit for the CDL test, the test will take approximately 90 minutes.
  5. Cost: The cost for a single segment set is currently $150. A 2 or 3 segment test is $300 (a standard CDL test is 3 segments).

What to Bring

When you arrive at Shelly Truck Driving School’s CDL test site, be sure to bring the following documents. All four items are required to take your CDL exam:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Commercial Learner’s Permit
  • Valid DOT Medical Card
  • Form of payment to cover the testing fee (Cash, Money Order, or Credit Card)

Located at 400 Mulberry St #2, York, PA, Shelly Truck Driving School’s CDL test site is open for exams Monday through Friday from 7 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. All exams must be scheduled in advance. No walk-ins.
